The Ravishing Byrds Burlesque began dancing in the fall of 2012. We thought burlesque was fun and there were dreams of one day taking the stage at the Burlesque Hall of Fame in Las Vegas. Pretty soon, it took another turn when we realized the political value in what we're doing. Our body is politics. Our sexuality is politics. The group has had members coming and going but the politics stand.

Burlesque is so much more than a hobby; for us, burlesque is a feminist statement. Through the burlesque we use our bodies with a revolutionary purpose and we take our bodies back. We smash the ideal and challenge the norms of what are considered good looks and who is allowed to love and accept their bodies. We show the variety of bodies in which we exist.

We take back our bodies from the unwanted sexualization and objectification that we are exposed to on a daily basis. Our bodies are our own and nobody else’s. We demand that our bodies do not get sexualized on any other terms than our own. This is what the burlesque gives us.

We question who has the right to love their body, who is allowed to be seen and take up space in public, who is allowed to be funny with their body and who is allowed to sexualize their body. These are issues that we want to discuss debate and criticize.

We take the right to sexualize our own bodies in no other terms than our own and without wanting attention from men. We take the liberty of making fun of our bodies. We believe that all bodies must be equal before we can be free from the unwanted sexualization of the female coded body.

The revolution continue here, with bumps and grinds and swirling tits. We take back what is ours!
